IB/HL Art:   IB/HL is a 2 year program.  You start by taking  IB/HL art simultaneously with an advanced art class, in this case, Art 2 or Graphic Design with Ms. Perry.   You will be responsible for all of the regular class projects, homework assignments etc.  In addition to those requirements, you will meet all of the IB guidelines.  They include keeping a workbook and completing a major artwork each marking period.  The details of the IB/HL requirements are listed below.

This is an informational website for students currently enrolled in Ms. Perry's IB/HL Art classes. If you would like more information about the IB Art Program at Mendham High School  please e-mail me at bluelavaart@yahoo.com

Workbook Guidelines:

(aka: sketchbook or journal) An 8"x11" spiral-bound hard covered book is best. Every Monday listed on your calendar (see below) you must turn in your sketchbook with 3 sides completed.

Your sketchbook should be a comprehensive document that illustrates your artistic development and research. The purpose of the workbook is to encourage and record personally driven research and discovery that function interactively with independent art work. It should include a combination of writing and drawing.

  Your workbook should include:

  • incorporate analytical research (critical and historical examination of art works and their contexts, sketches, technological experiments, etc.)
  • Writing about artwork that you have seen (galleries, museums…)
  • art images that relate to written critiques or artwork you are creating
  • discovery, interpretation, media experiments, and the development of mature artistic expression. It should contain both visual and verbal information and have the appearance of a working journal.
  • reflection of a theme or prime area of interest
  • drawings from observation
  • thumbnail sketches for future projects.
  • drawings of artwork or sculptures
  • studio and workbook interaction: drawings that may relate to your concentration (or what you think your concentration maybe for studio)
  • written critiques of your work and art historical work
  • discussions of the artist's role in society, cross-cultural variants, social and religious functions of art.

Artwork Guidelines:

You will create 1 major artwork outside of your regular class responsibilities each marking period.

  • Your progress will be checked throughout the marking period.  A calendar with important due dates listed below.
  • Your project will be graded at the end of the marking period.
  • Your artwork should be developed from ideas generated in your sketchbook.
