MHS Sports Roundup

MENDHAM – Field hockey, tennis and boys soccer teams continued strong starts this past
week at Mendham High School.
The field hockey and boys soccer teams improved to 5-1 while the girls tennis team won two
matches to compile a 6-1 mark in the early going.
Here is a roundup of how the teams at Mendham High School fared during the week ending
Sept. 23.


Boys Soccer

Mendham (5-1) edged West Morris, 2-1, in overtime on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Max Bziukiewicz
scored two goals and Anthony Poliska and Raul Gonzalez had assists.
The Minutemen lost to Delbarton, 2-1, on Thursday, Sept. 21. Griffin Coutts scored and goalie
Will Andrews made 10 saves for Mendham.

The team edged Morris Hills, 1-0, on Saturday, Sept. 23. Jason Paz netted a goal for the
Minutemen.

Field Hockey

Mendham (5-1) defeated Montville, 5-1, on Monday, Sept. 18. Julia Schoenbrodt scored two
goals, Lily Chandler added a goal and an assist and Lizzie Parker had an assist.
The team edged West Morris, 1-0, on Wednesday, Sept. 20. Claire Stolarski scored on an assist
from Jessica Curl. Goalie Halle Ferrara made 10 saves.

Mendham got past Morristown, 3-2, in overtime on Friday, Sept. 22. Curl, Schoenbrodt and
Grace Servelo put in goals.


Girls Soccer

Mendham (0-5) fell to Chatham, 6-0, on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The team then lost a 3-1 contest to

West Morris on Saturday, Sept. 23. Lia Manuel scored a goal and goalie Brynn Gambuti made
nine saves.

Girls Tennis

Mendham (6-1) edged Morris Hills, 3-2, on Tuesday, Sept. 19.  Sofia Cicarone won 6-0, 6-1 at first singles, Maya Gieszczynski took a 6-1, 6-1 match at second singles and the first doubles duo of Liliana Hurley and Anneliese Scala prevailed 7-5, 6-0 at first doubles.
Mendham defeated Randolph, 4-1, on Wednesday, Sept. 20. Cicarone won 6-1, 6-0, Gieszczynski prevailed 7-5, 6-2 at second singles, Siena Tiboni won 6-3, 6-1 at third singles and the second doubles pair of Kaitlyn Rostiac/Logan Hanson came away with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Girls Volleyball

Mendham (2-4) had losses to Montville, Morris Knolls and Sparta over the week.

Football

The football team fell to Parsippany Hills (3-2), 35-13, on Friday night, Sept. 22
The Minutemen fell to 1-4 on the season and dropped their third in a row. Parsippany Hills
quarterback Joshua Smith threw for 239 yards and three touchdowns. Julio Tatis was effective
on the ground for the Vikings with 172 yards on 24 caries with two scores.
Par Hills’ Joseph Ciccotelli was a difficult cover for Mendham, as he made eight catches for 207 yards and three TDs.


Mendham hosts Madison (1-3) at 7 p.m., Friday night, Sept. 29.
